GUAYNABO METS SIGN ISAIAH LEBLANC, RE-SIGN BRAD GREENBERG

 DECEMBER 11, 2021  METSBASKETBALL

The Guaynabo Mets have made their first moves of the offseason, bringing back Coach Brad Greenberg and agreeing to a deal with guard Isaiah LeBlanc.

Greenberg took over head coaching duties for the Mets midway through the 2021 season and helped put them on a path that nearly led to a title. The team went 9-4 under Greenberg during the regular season and finished third in the BSN’s B Division. Guaynabo went on to defeat Ponce in the quarterfinals and Bayamon in the semifinals before dropping a hard-fought final series to Arecibo.

“My Guaynabo Mets, BSN, and Puerto Rico experience this past season was thoroughly enjoyable and exciting,” said Greenberg. “The offer to continue is very much appreciated and my decision to do so is an easy one. The challenge of putting together a winning roster now begins and I look forward to working on strategies to help us be a competitive team in such a fierce league as the BSN.”

The Mets added an intriguing piece to their roster with the signing of LeBlanc. Taken seventh overall in the BSN draft last year by Brujos de Guayama, LeBlanc sat out the season after he and the team failed to come to terms. LeBlanc, whose maternal grandfather is from Puerto Rico, jumped directly from high school to the pros, passing up scholarship offers to play college hoops for the University of Houston, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, and LSU. The 6-foot-3 combo guard scored over 2,500 points during his high school career.

“Isaiah bet on himself by turning pro at nineteen, and we’re betting on him to make an immediate impact on our team as a scorer,” said Mets co-owner Marc Grossman. “We have a coach in Brad Greenberg who proved last season he gets the best out of his players. We’re looking forward to seeing what Brad can do with a full offseason and training camp at his disposal.”Guaynabo will continue making signings and moves to put them back in championship contention. The Mets came up a win short of the finals in 2019 and just two wins short of winning it all in 2020.
